Pour enough milk into the dish to just cover the bottom. Let the milk sit still for a minute.
Add several drops of different food coloring near the center of the milk. Keep the drops close together, but do not let them touch.
Dip the tip of a cotton swab or toothpick into the dish soap so it is well coated.
Gently touch the soapy tip to the surface of the milk near the food coloring. Hold it in place for 10–15 seconds without stirring.
Observe how the colors rapidly move, swirl, and spread across the milk. As soon as the soap touches the milk, the food coloring bursts outward and forms swirling, moving patterns that continue for several seconds.
